Eating a Hamburger with a Fork and Knife

While cruising around the web looking for nothing particular, I came across a blog called The Rusty Spinner.  It’s a really good blog with some fantastic posts.  Inside a folder called Wit and Wisdom is a quote that made me stop and think.

"Fly fishing for bass is like eating a hamburger with a fork and knife."
Benjamin Jose

I don’t know if I should be offended by Benjamin’s words or take it as an idea that somehow bass fishing with a fly rod is regal and refined.  Either way, I’m fairly certain that he has never fished a river with big bass like the New or the Haw. Well Mr. Benjamin Jose, here is a depiction of fly fishing for bass to help you better understand:

“Fly fishing for bass is like drinking bourbon from a flask while smoking a fine cigar, trout fishing is like drinking a great micro beer and eating chicken wings, and coastal fishing is like drinking spiced rum while watching the sunrise over the ocean; I love um all!”
Cope Mahagan

So Ben, if you ever want to chase really big smallies in Virgina just let me know and I’ll bring the whiskey, but if you want to chase trout we’ll settle up to the bar and have a few cold ones first.  Don’t worry, we’ve got those too.
